Legacy of Service for the District 5 Grapevine Committee
COMPOSITION: Any District 5 AA member is eligible to become a member of the Grapevine (GV) Committee. The Grapevine Committee Chairperson is elected by the GV Committee members. The newly elected GV Committee Chair is presented at the next District 5 business meeting for approval by the body. (Note that District 5 GSRs or their alternates are encouraged to join a District 5 committee during their term of service.)
SCOPE: The purpose of the District 5 Grapevine Committee is to provide a forum to ● discuss creative ways to increase the visibility of the Grapevine and La Viña ● collaborate on strategies for increasing enthusiasm around the Grapevine/La Viña Magazines and the resources found on the aagrapevine.org website ● encourage committee members to read through The Grapevine Workbook and A Guide to AA Grapevine to be inspired by the information and suggestions contained in those documents ● identify ongoing issues and ask for suggested solutions or shared experience on what has worked in the past. If a solution is not forthcoming, ask for volunteers to search for solutions in AA or AA Grapevine literature, or to ask for suggestions from a trusted servant with extensive experience in AA service work and can direct us to available resources related our issue.
PROCEDURE: The Grapevine Committee meets monthly to ● plan District 5 GV Workshops or encourage AA groups to consider hosting a GV workshop on topics such as how to write an article for the Grapevine ● maintain/enhance the Grapevine Display that the GV Committee and/or GV Chair takes to events in District 5 and to Area 15 Quarterly Assemblies being hosted by District 5 ● encourage AA groups to elect a GV Representative (GVR) and requests that when a GVR is elected, the group notify the District 5 Grapevine Committee Chairperson of the new GVR by sending an email to grapevine@aadistrict5.org. The email should include the following information: GROUP NAME, GVR Name, GVR Email, GVR Phone Number.
CHAIRPERSON QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 2 years sobriety ● working knowledge of AA’s 12 Steps and 12 Traditions ● Familiarity with The Grapevine Workbook and A Guide to AA Grapevine or a willingness to study those publications ● Available to attend District 5 business meetings and Area 15 Committee Quarterly Assemblies.
CHAIRPERSON DUTIES: Schedule a recurring monthly GV Committee Meeting and ask Web Chair to add the meeting to the online calendar on the District 5 website. Be sure to request that Web Chair update the online calendar if meeting location, date and time change ● create agenda for the monthly meeting and send a meeting reminder and agenda to Grapevine Committee members and GVRs in advance of the meeting ● chair the monthly Grapevine Committee Meeting ● attend monthly District 5 business meeting and give an oral report of current GV Committee activities, limiting the report length to 3 minutes or less. Email a typewritten version of report to the District 5 Recording Secretary at secretary@aadistrict5.org for inclusion in meeting minutes. (The deadline for sending the written report to the secretary is the Friday following the business meeting) ● attend Area 15 GV Committee meeting at the Quarterly Assemblies and if time permits, report current GV Committee activities in District 5. Include a brief summary of what was discussed at the Area 15 GV Committee meeting when giving your GV Report at the next District 5 business meeting.
Maintain ongoing communication with all GV committee members and GVRs ● work with GVRs to help them carry accurate information about Grapevine resources to their home groups ● point GVRs to the list of suggestions found under the heading “What Do GVRs and RLVs Do?” on Page 35 of the A Guide to AA Grapevine ● periodically review the information on the District 5 GV Committee web page and the District 5 calendar and inform the District 5 Web Chair of any changes needed ● approximately 3 months before your term as GV Committee Chair ends, review the GV Committee Legacy of Service on the Grapevine Committee web page and inform District 5 Web Chair of changes needed ● when prompted by the District Treasurer, submit annual GV Committee budget request to the Treasurer.
